New Leica theodolite advances alignment technology

31/08/2010
A new generation of industrial theodolites from the leading metrology brand, Leica Geosystems, is aiming to enhance the capabilities of aerospace applications in both civilan and military environments.

The Leica TM6100A comes with the latest features and newest technology, including piezo direct-drive technology. The new motorised drives offer the stability of manual drives and the flexibility of fully automated motorised drives, and can still be used submicron-level fine positioning tasks.

Shceduled for release this autumn through Hexagon Metrology, it will advance the technology on offer in the TDRA6000 theodolite and the Absolute Tracker AT401. The drives have been repositioned to help make measuring in difficult situations easier.

The new model also features a colour touch screen, which remains clearly visible at all times, and allows for surveying in the darkest and most difficult of locations. To assist this, the intuitive user interface means users only need minimal training before being able to do basic measurements and calibrations to the sensor.

Product manager, Joel Martin said the new model was in an excellent position to maintain the brand as the name of choice for satellite alignment systems.

"Leica Geosystems’ autocollimating theodolites are the standard instrument of choice in the aerospace industry for satellite alignment, as well as for boresight and heads up display (HUD) alignment for combat aircraft,” he explained.

“These industries rely on Leica Geosystems’ theodolites for their unrivalled precision and superb optics.”
